Redesigning buyer experience process of a not-for-profit retail brand.

charityBay

charityBay.org is an online marketplace that helps companies and people to make money from selling their products (brand new or second-hand) or services while supporting their favourite charity by donating a portion from each sale.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Simplify, eliminate steps, eliminate friction for buyers coming to charityBay.org looking for items, and merge all the experience and messaging into the primary objective: social impact.

OUR APPROACH

Our UX team explored the problem space together in a brainstorming session to define the scope of work and created a problem statement to guide our research.

We also looked at competitors or related sites to assess for strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities.

Then the research was synthesised our into two camps:

  1. Users who place high importance on social impact:
They needed more indication of sustainable practices and more clarity around the donations.
  2. Users who place high importance on the shopping experience;
They needed to see more desirable products and move more quickly through the buying process.

Following personas were developed to reflect these two ends of the user spectrum.

In preparation for developing visual designs, we brainstormed our way to two questions that would guide our work.

We brainstormed ideas for each high impact step of the buyer journey.

While they may look indecipherable at first, our quick pencil sketches were invaluable to flesh out solutions to these questions.

We then arranged the ideas into an Minimum Viable Product (MVP)matrix in order to prioritise the impact and achievable solutions.

Then we dove into visual designs.

Once we arrived at a high-fidelity version of the design, user testing was conducted.

Finally, we worked on a high-fidelity prototype of our final designs, providing impactful changes across the entire buyer flow.

And here’s a video of the final prototype :)
